Coding and cake events

Relaxed professional learning sessions for primary and secondary teachers in computing science and digital literacy organised by the Data Education in Schools project.

These professional learning workshops are organised by the Data Education in Schools project.  

Workshops take place mid-week in local authority settings (Newbattle High School and Wester Hailes Education Centre) and at the Moray House School of Education and Sport on Saturday.  

There is an £8 charge for weekend workshops but you can bring up to 2 young people to participate with you.  Weekend workshops also include coffee and cake.

Coding and cake - Unplugged: Explore the Data around us

This course on Saturday 28th March 2020 is designed for individuals in both primary and secondary sectors to learn about the emerging field of Data Science and discover practical activities to teach learners about data gathering and presenting information. It will give an understanding of the key concepts and strategies for teaching Data Science through the Computing Science and Numeracy experiences and outcomes.

Coding and cake - Bot Pedagogy: STEM with Robots

This course n Saturday 2nd May 2020 is designed for individuals in both Primary and Secondary sectors who have access to robots and programmable toys and want to learn how to use them in a way that gives learners experience of the computing science curricular outcomes and develops their understanding of STEM.

Coding and cake: fun with data

This course on Saturday 23rd May 2020 is designed for individuals in both primary and secondary sectors to learn about the emerging field of Data Science and discover practical activities to teach learners about data gathering and presenting information. It will give an understanding of the key concepts and strategies for teaching Data Education through the Computing Science and Numeracy experiences and outcomes.

Coding and cake - Scratch: More Games

This course on Saturday 13th June 2020 is designed for individuals in both Primary and Secondary sectors who are familiar with Scratch (or another block based language) and want to learn how to use it to create basic computer games, including how to lead learners to create their own games.
