The Postgraduate Diploma in Outdoor Education has been offered since 1972, and the Master’s in Outdoor Education since 1996. Together, these programmes are world leading and the longest running graduate programmes in the field. They offer a broad base for a professional career in Outdoor Education through a variety of approaches to learning.
The Outdoor Education programmes focus on historical and contemporary approaches to outdoor, environmental and adventure education. They are ideal for people working, or seeking to work in adventure and expedition education, outdoor recreation, eco-tourism, physical education, youth development, including outdoor education centres.

There are three possible exit levels: Postgraduate Certificate, Postgraduate Diploma, or Master’s. The emphasis – at every level – is on developing the knowledge, understanding, and judgement necessary to facilitate meaningful learning in, for, and through the outdoors.
Students range from young adults who have recently completed undergraduate degrees to professionals returning to study after several years, and in some cases even decades, working in the field.
Our graduates are employed worldwide in all aspects of the Outdoor and Environmental Education sector. They’ve found jobs in residential outdoor education centres, wilderness expeditions and school, college and university programmes.
