Dr Audrey Cameron awarded OBE

Congratulations to Dr Audrey Cameron who received, from His Majesty The King, the honour of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in the Birthday 2023 Honours List.

Dr Cameron attended a ceremony at Holyrood Palace with family and received her award from Her Royal Highness, The Princess Royal. Dr Cameron, Chancellor’s Fellow and Honorary Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry, completed her PGCE at Moray House and currently serves as a lecturer on the PGDE Secondary program (Chemistry and General Science) and the MSc Inclusive Education (Deaf Studies).

I was shocked!  It is such a huge honour to be awarded an OBE.  I will continue the work to improve access to education for deaf children.

BSL Plan

The University’s BSL Plan aims to promote the use of BSL across all University activities. As a BSL user herself, Dr Cameron is particularly enthusiastic about implementing actions to provide information and services in BSL and supporting BSL users' access to post-school education.

In her work on Inclusion in Science Education, Dr Cameron spearheaded the Scottish Sensory Centre’s BSL Glossary, a repository of nearly 5000 BSL signs for scientific terms. As BSL signs visually represent scientific terms, the glossary aids both deaf and non-deaf students in accessing and comprehending scientific concepts more effectively.

Moray House School of Education and Sport takes great pride in this remarkable achievement, recognising it as well-deserved recognition of our colleague's hard work, dedication and perseverance in this crucial area of education.
