The Manifesto for Teaching Online has been provoking thinking among educators since 2011. This September - at a moment when online teaching has crashed from margins to mainstream - we launch the book of the manifesto.
Please join us for the Annual Memorial Lecture in honour of Professor David Raffe
'What happened to Excellence?'
Rt Hon Lord Jack McConnell, will give the 3rd annual memorial lecture in honour of the late David Raffe, Professor of Sociology of Education and Director of the Centre for Educational Sociology at the University of Edinburgh. David’s work was underpinned by a concern with issues of inequality in education and how policy change and educational reforms might impact on inequalities. This theme is reflected in this third memorial lecture to be given by Lord McConnell, 20 years after he became Minister for Education in 2000.
The Understanding Inequalities (UI) International Conference - scheduled for October - has been cancelled. In place of the conference, we are running a series of webinars. We hope you can join us for all or most of our webinars.
As a School, we fully endorse the statement from the University. The University statement calls for us to be part of the solution.
Therefore, we will as a School be taking views from staff and students on how we can do our part to address and confront racism and discrimination in all its forms. This would mean listening and learning from BME staff and students in the School but also to identify further action we might wish to undertake related to the various areas of our work from learning and teaching, research to administration. We will also visit the key recommendations from the Thematic Review 2018-19 of Black and Minority Ethnic Students and identify those that are relevant for School level action.
We will work on this via the School Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Committee and also with support and advice from colleagues linked to the Centre for Education for Racial Equality in Scotland (CERES).
Speaker: Professor Kirsten Sandberg, University of Oslo
