Career opportunities

This MSc Comparative Education and International Development degree has no fixed career trajectory, opening multiple, potential possibilities. Students might go onto careers in research, higher education internationalisation offices, civil society and non-governmental organisations, international organisations, the public sector, or further study.

Networking is a key aspect of the CEID field. To further their networks, students are exposed to experts across the university and practitioners in the field. Throughout the year experts are invited to participate in CEID Community events to share their experience and career path, helping students consider the multitude of post-graduation possibilities. Sharing in the past has come from colleagues in local organisations, such as UN House Scotland, the Scottish Development Alliance, and Link Education International, as well as regional and international organisations, including UN Agencies, World Vision, the OECD, the Global Partnership for Education, and Oxfam, amongst others.

Optional opportunities fostering student’s practical skills while providing space to network with experts in the field are also available. These include the placement-based dissertation option, allowing qualified students to complete their dissertations with select local, regional, or global organisations, and the spring semester trip, enabling students to learn more about the field through visits to international organisations and non-governmental organisations.

Careers Service

The University of Edinburgh's Careers Service supports all current students (and graduates for up to 2 years) to develop their potential and achieve satisfying and rewarding futures.  This is done through individual appointments, group sessions and wider campus-based activity, alongside online services and resources.  A diverse programme of face-to-face and online events is delivered throughout the academic year.
