Applying for grants is a great way to help source the money you need to launch your business idea. Find out more about our Enterprise Initiative Grant for early stage student businesses and other grants from across the University and the wider Scottish startup scene that you can apply for.

Enterprise Initiative Grant (EIG)

If you have an early stage business idea and need funding to conduct market research, develop a prototype or develop marketing materials or a website then we can help with an EIG award of up to £1,000. To qualify you must be a student of the University of Edinburgh and be actively engaged with our student enterprise team. Ask your adviser for more information.

Further University resources

The Student Experience Grant is a contribution of up to £5,000 to support innovations that will enhance students' social, academic, intellectual, entrepreneurial, sporting or cultural development. They are funded by alumni of the University of Edinburgh.

The University's Institute of Academic Development offers funding to support a variety of student activities, for single events to longer-running projects.

Other grants

Scottish Enterprise's SMART: SCOTLAND grants aim to support high risk, highly ambitious projects to conduct feasibility tests and develop prototypes. They are available to small and medium enterprises based in Scotland. 

The UK Government's innovation agency, Innovate UK, part of UK Research & Innovation, supports new businesses with a range of services including funding opportunities.
