Business Ideas Competition

Entering a business competition is a great way to raise money to launch your business or social venture.

The Business Ideas Competition is now part of the Edinburgh Earth Enterprise Ideas Competition until 28 February with a bigger prize fund of £1,000!

Our new Edinburgh Earth Enterprise Ideas Competition focuses on ideas to help solve the climate crisis, with five categories to choose from. Don't have an idea for this? Don't worry you can enter your business idea as normal, simply choose the 'business ideas' category on the application form.

Do you have an idea for a business or social enterprise? Tell us all about it and you could win part of £1,000 plus support to develop your idea further!

It's that simple.

Describe your idea, tell us what makes it special, what stage you are at and who are the potential customers.

This competition is always open so if you miss this deadline, you'll be considered at the next deadline. £500 in funding is available every month!

Key dates

Deadline 28 February
Winners announced 11 March

This competition is for current students and recent graduates (within the last two years) from the University of Edinburgh.

If you have won a Business Ideas Competition in the past, you cannot win again.

Please keep to the word limits and do not provide external supporting evidence such as links.

We are looking for projects that will benefit from this level of support, and are at the 'idea' stage of development, although this doesn't necessarily disqualify businesses that have already formed. In order to accept the funds, you will need to agree that you will spend the money working on your business idea, and that you will continue working with Edinburgh Innovations to further develop the idea.

Next deadline: 28 February

When clicking the apply button you will be redirected to the Edinburgh Earth Enterprise Ideas Competition. If you do not have a data-driven idea related to the climate crisis simply choose the 'business ideas' category.
