Café des Artistes 7
An evening focusing on Bruce Nauman took place on 18 November 2014 at Talbot Rice Gallery.
The event was hosted by Dr Catherine Spencer (University of St Andrews) and Ruth Burgon (University of Edinburgh) and followed by group discussions.
Catherine Spencer is a Lecturer in Modern and Contemporary Art at the University of St Andrews, and she has previously taught at the University of Edinburgh.
Her PhD thesis Fieldwork: Performing Social Science in North America, 1961-1975 argued that a parodical, parasitical relationship with sociology lies at the heart of much performance art during this period, and she is currently developing this material into a book project.
Ruth Burgon is a third-year PhD candidate at the University of Edinburgh, writing her thesis on the use of walking in modern and contemporary art practice.
She has most recently been writing about the early film and video works of Bruce Nauman.
She has been involved in the ARTIST ROOMS Research Partnership since 2011, managing the writing of online texts about works in the collection.
