New first year students who would like to change their degree programme within the first two weeks of Semester 1 should go to the UG Admissions Office at 57 George Square.
After this point, there are different categories of degree transfer.
Changing your degree programme after the first two weeks of Semester 1
- A transfer from a current CHSS degree programme to a different CHSS degree programme that would not require an additional period of study;
- A transfer from a current CHSS degree programme to a different CHSS degree programme that would require an additional period of study;
- A transfer into a CHSS degree programme from a programme in one of the other Colleges (this might or might not require an additional period of study);
- A transfer out of CHSS into a degree programme owned by a different College.
Category 1 transfers
For category 1, individual schools in CHSS handle incoming transfers, so students who wish to change to a degree programme owned by another school in this College should consult the owning school.
We would suggest that you do this as early as possible to ensure that you are able to meet any requirements that school may have (for example, deadlines and required courses).
Students who wish to transfer to Economics from another school within CHSS should talk to our Student Support Officers.
Changing your degree within the School of Economics is fairly simple provided you have taken the required courses - the only exception to this is a change to Economics and Politics: the School of Social and Political Science require an application to be submitted by their deadline which is usually the beginning of May (follow the link below to find out more). The Student Support Officers can advise you further if necessary.
Categories 2 and 3 transfers
Students wishing to transfer into CHSS, or where a transfer request extends the length of the period of study (categories 2 and 3 above), should apply to CHSS using the 'Degree transfer into CHSS/additional year's study' form.
There is a strict deadline (see form), usually the end of March, and only a limited number of places are available.
No decisions will be made on these requests until the summer vacation when degree examination results are known. Please note that the deadline for all applications for transfers into BEd (Primary and Physical Education) and Fine Art is earlier, usually December.
Category 4 transfers
Students who wish to transfer to a degree in Science and Engineering (category 4) should consult the Teaching Organisation of the destination School, who will liaise with their College Recruitment and Admissions Section.
