For researchers
BLUE is available to academic researchers at the University of Edinburgh and elsewhere for experiments with a scientific purpose. The laboratory has 38 fully partitioned work-stations.
To conduct an experiment at BLUE, please follow these steps:
1. Read the following documents:
- Research Ethics Framework (College of Humanities and Social Science)
- School of Economics ethics guidelines (PDF 51.6KB)
- BLUE lab ethical quidelines (DOCX 20.3KB)
- BLUE lab usage guidelines (DOCX 22.0KB)
3. Obtain ethical approval:
- Researchers and students from the University of Edinburgh should make a Research, Integrity and Governance Application.
- External researcher should discuss ethical requirements with the lab director.
4. Test the experiment: BLUE has pre-installed z-Tree but can accommodate other software (oTree etc). Please ensure that all code for the experiment is tested in advance.
5. Arrange payment to the School of Economics.
6. Run a pilot experiment: a pilot experiment is typically one session carried out two weeks before the actual experiment.
7. Conduct the experiment.
