Details for the Arts and Humanities Research Council Funding 2021

The University of Edinburgh is part of the Scottish Graduate School for Arts and Humanities (SGSAH), a consortium of 16 Higher Education Institutions awarded funding from the Artsand Humanities Research Council (AHRC) to support postgraduate studentships and training in the Arts and Humanities in Scotland.

The AHRC Doctoral Training Partnership (DTP) works across Scotland. The partnership offers a number of PhD studentships each year, through an open studentship competition.

As a participating subject area within the University of Edinburgh, the School of Divinity will consider application for awards in the following subject areas:

  • Ethics and Practical Theology
  • Hebrew and Old Testament Studies
  • History of Christianity
  • Islamic Studies and Christian-Muslim Relations
  • New Testament and Christian Origins
  • Religious Studies
  • Science and Religion
  • Systematic Theology
  • World Christianity

Step 1 Apply for a PhD programme in the School of Divinity no later than Monday 30 November 2020*.  (If you are currently a first year PhD student with us, please see Step 2). 

Step 2 Complete the SGSAH studentship nomination form and return it to the School by Friday 4 December 2020

Step 3 The University will select and nominate applicants to go forward to the next stage of the competition. You will be notified by email by the end of January 2021.

Step 4 Nominated applicants submit the full SGSAH application form to the SGSAH online portal. The portal will open on 1 February and will close on 12 February 2021. Late applications will not be accepted. 

Final funding decisions will be made by the SGSAH by the end of April 2021. SGSAH will notify applicant by email.
