New scholarship funds honour Larry Hurtado and Lloyd Ogilvie

The School of Divinity, University of Edinburgh, has established two new postgraduate scholarships in recognition of the late Professor Larry Hurtado and alumnus Dr Lloyd John Ogilvie.

Professor Helen Bond, Head of the School of Divinity, explains:

“We lost two of our best in 2019. One was a much loved academic, the other was a leader of leaders. Both achieved international distinction in their careers. Not least, Larry was the founder of our Centre for the Study of Christian Origins and Lloyd was former chaplain to the United States Senate.

“We are honoured to recognise their many achievements and long connection to our School by establishing scholarships their names.”

The Dr Lloyd John Ogilvie Scholarship will enable students from around the world to undertake postgraduate studies at the School of Divinity.

The Professor Larry Hurtado Scholarship Fund has been created to support PhD candidates at the School in the area of Christian Origins.

Professor Bond continues:

“We are grateful for a generous lead gift from alumnus Rev Dr Bob Funk towards the Dr Lloyd John Ogilvie Scholarship fund.

“A number of Larry’s friends and colleagues have supported the Professor Larry Hurtado Scholarship fund.

"On behalf of everyone in the School I would like to thank everyone for the kind contributions we have received so far.
