John Knox brings Colleges on either side of the Atlantic closer together

Jane Dawson carried the warm greetings of New College and the School of Divinity to our sister college in Toronto.

During her recent visit to Knox College, University of Toronto, Jane Dawson delivered the Address to their 173rd Convocation [graduation]. Two years before New College’s foundation, Knox came into existence in 1844 as the first theological college for the Presbyterian Church in Canada. Since that time there have been links across the Atlantic between the two institutions, its academics and students and Knox still places a high value upon its connections with New College and Scotland. Today Knox is part of the Toronto School of Theology, one of the largest ecumenical centres for theological education in the English-speaking world.

At the Convocation Dinner on 10 May Jane presented a copy of the re-discovered oil painting of John Knox that now hangs in New College as a token of the long-standing friendship between the Colleges. Knox’s Principal, the Reverend Dr Dorcas Gordon, and Dr Peter Ross, the Convenor of Knox’s Board of Governors received the portrait.
