This week the School of Divinity received high praise indeed from Professor Chris Southgate in the Zygon: Journal of Science and Religion, a leading journal in the field. In his article Science and Religion in the United Kingdom: A Personal View On The Contemporary Scene, Professor Southgate considers the current state of the science– religion debate in the United Kingdom. He discusses the societies, groups, and individual scholars that shape that debate, including the dialogue between theology and physics, biology, and psychology. Attention is also given to theology’s engagement with ecological issues. The article also reflects on the loss of influence of denominational Christianity within British society, and the impact both on the character of the debate and the role of the churches. He singles out Dr Mark Harris, Professor David Fergusson, Professor Michael Northcott, Dr David Grummet and Dr Mike Fuller and their work in the field finally describing the Science and Reigion programme at The School of Divinity as " The science and religion program [at Edinburgh] is, in my personal view, at present the most creative and vigorous British training ground for new researchers in the science–religion debate.
