Ruth Foster was given the opportunity to represent the University of Edinburgh and the UK as one of four UK youth delegates at the G20 in China. She was selected to partake in Y20, the official youth engagement group to the G20. This involved travelling to Beijing and Shanghai for a week-long, international summit, where future leaders from the G20 nations met to create a proposal of practical actions to present to the G20 leaders in the form of a written communiqué. After a rigorous selection process by the Future Leaders Network it was an honour to earn the role and represent the youth of the UK, especially since she was one of the youngest delegates there. While in China Ruth discussed the topic ‘Poverty Elimination and Joint Development', focusing on sustainable and innovative approaches to poverty. These included access to Internet through improved communications infrastructure. The final communiqué and other information about Y20 can be found here: http://www.g20-youthsummit.org/en/index.html. We are very proud of Ruth’s contribution to such an important event!
