Reimagining Mission during and after Covid

The COVID 19 Global Pandemic is prompting theological reflection across a range of key issues for churches, including the Church of Scotland. Following two very popular zoominars on Theological Responses and Pastoral Responses, Trinity College offers this zoominar session on ReImagining Mission, in co-operation with staff at the School of Divinity, University of Edinburgh. Some of the toughest challenges presented to churches by the pandemic are those around mission. There seems to be an obvious tension between the classic Great Commission to ‘Go into all the world’ and the public health imperatives to stay at home and reduce social contact. In this zoominar we consider how a focus on ‘mission’, often through missio dei thinking or via The Five Marks of Mission, acts as a lens for looking at all churches do and are. Post-colonial mission invites us to reflect on the work of the church across the whole oikumene in a global pandemic. We also consider how local churches have continued to live and work missionally in response to the pandemic and under lockdown restrictions. What are we learning about mission in these times? How has our online presence extended our potential for witness and outreach locally and nationally? We have an exciting panel of dynamic and creative thinkers with rich international experience as well as local knowledge of parish life in the Kirk. Join us over a long lunch and have your imagination stimulated and refreshed.
