Art, Conflict, and Remembering: the murals of the Bogside Artists This topical exhibition tells the story of the Troubles through the 12 large-scale murals of The People’s Gallery in Derry/Londonderry, Northern Ireland. The murals draw attention to the non-sectarian Civil Rights movement in the late 1960s and the effects of the evolving conflict on the lives of ordinary people. The exhibition provides an important talking point for processing the painful past, for exploring the difficult journey towards peaceful futures and for reflecting on the complex role of the arts in building just peace. Venue Rainy hall, New College Opening times 21-26 August 2019, 10am-10pm 27 August-3 September, 11am-5pm Free and unticketed (apart from the private viewing and panel discussion below). Private viewing and panel discussion, 20 August 2019 There will be a private viewing, 4pm 20 August 2019 followed at 5pm by a panel discussion and drinks reception in the Rainy Hall. The panel will include the Bogside artists (Tom Kelly and Kevin Hasson), the exhibition's curator, Dr Adrienne Dengerink Chaplin, Professor Jolyon Mitchell (chair) and leading law Professor Christine Bell, FBA (University of Edinburgh).
