Anna Stewart

Employed at The Scottish Parliament

Why did you choose to study at New College?

I read Divinity at New College between 2002 and 2006, my own interests being Ecclesiastical History and Systematic Theology.

What are your best memories of your time at New College?

I have very fond memories of the late Professors Marcella Althaus-Reid and Professor Alistair Kee. I did not go into teaching or anything directly related to my degree but I am forever reminded of something Professor Stewart Brown (the Head of the School ) said one Christmas lunch about how we Divinity students would receive a first rate Liberal Arts Education, the tenets of which included an understanding and tolerance, something the world was (and is) very much in need of.

On a lighter note, I also fondly remember being in Larry Hurtado’s class when he used a certain expletive (and woke up the back row!). I get to tell people I was there around the same year as Miles Jupp of Balamory and Gary Tank Commander Fame. Only my daughter and I seem to find the Balamory bit interesting.

What has been your career path?

I now work at The Scottish Parliament and where some of the skill sets I learned from my time at New College (analytical skills, perhaps tolerance!) have been beneficial in my role.
