Research
Episodic memory emerges relatively late during juvenile development in comparison to other forms of memory, and is particularly vulnerable to disruption in normal ageing, as well as in neurodevelopmental and neurodegenerative diseases.
I am investigating how the hippocampus and prefrontal cortex interact when certain types of memory develop, and whether these interactions are altered in neurodevelopmental disorders. I am studying this in wild type and Fmr1KO rats - a rat model of Fragile X Syndrome, the most common form of inherited learning disability, using in vivo electrophysiological recordings in the hippocampus and prefrontal cortex, while the animals perform various behavioural tasks.
