Background

Guy graduated BDS from King’s College, London 1989.

He completed his Vocational Training in Accrington in the North of England.

Following a period of 2 years working in General Practice in Lancashire, Guy spent 10 years working as the community dentist on the island of North Uist in the Outer Hebrides of Scotland.

Guy then worked as a tutor at the dental school in Dunedin, New Zealand before taking up a senior role in Paediatric Dentistry for NHS Highland in Scotland.

Following this, Guy worked as a senior dentist / tutor on final year dental student outreach clinics in Inverness in the Scottish highlands, as a lecturer on the University of Highlands and Islands dental therapy BSc course and was a VT and CT1 trainer.

Guy studied (as an NHS Education for Scotland Remote and Rural fellow) for an MSc in Primary dental care (passed with distinction) at the University of Glasgow. Guy presented his MSc research project (on placement of preformed crowns on carious primary molars by dental therapists in vocational training) as a poster and abstract at the International Association for Paediatric Dentistry conference in Glasgow in 2015 and as a paper published in 2015 in the Primary Dental Journal.

Guy currently splits his time in NHS Highland as an Assistant Clinical Dental Director, and as a tutor on the BSc / MSc in Oral Health Science (dental therapy).

Guy also obtained a Diploma in Postgraduate Dental Studies at the University of Bristol (fixed prosthodontics / endodontics, paediatric dentistry, control of pain and anxiety) and has a postgraduate certificate in clinical education from the university of the Highlands and Islands.

Guy has worked with NHS Education for Scotland as a presenter on the dental vocational training scheme, the dental CT1 programme, the dental therapy VT scheme and on the development and delivery of webinars.

In education,  Guy has a strong interest in the development of the critical reflective practitioner and skill mix within the dental team.

Guy’s natural habitat is the mountains of the Scottish highlands.
