Medical students offer free childcare for NHS staff
Medical students from the University of Edinburgh, who are yet to qualify, have joined forces to offer free childcare for NHS staff across the city.
The scheme, started by fifth-year medical student Sam Bresland, pairs NHS staff in need of childcare with student volunteers using a dedicated Facebook group and childcare app, Bubble.
Medical staff can use these platforms to detail their childcare needs, with student members then able to reach out and make arrangements for childminding.
The childcare service offers frontline workers valuable access to PVG-checked childminders and gives medical students a way to contribute to the NHS during these challenging times.
It has been incredibly rewarding work: by sitting and allowing staff members to get to their shifts, the volunteers contribute to a team that is working to treat patients - which I think is really special.
