Hugh Edmiston is currently the Vice Principal of Business Development and Director of Corporate Services and an executive member of the senior team. He is responsible for 12 groups which include finance, property and the commercialisation of research and services. In addition he leads of a number of the University’s strategic projects which include Data Driven Innovation for the City Deal and the development of the life sciences Bioquarter campus.
Hugh has significant change management and merger experience and he holds a number of commercial board and public sector committee positions. Previous roles have included Registrar for the College of Medicine and Veterinary Medicine at the University of Edinburgh and Director of Operations for the Roslin Institute and Silsoe Research Institute.

Catherine joined Corporate Services as PA to the Director in September 2009 having been with the University of Edinburgh since 2006, previously working in the School of GeoSciences and in the cross-college International Development Centre. Prior to joining the University Catherine spent a number of years living and working in Japan as an English language instructor and teacher trainer, returning to an administrative career on her return to the UK.
David is a Scottish-trained Chartered Accountant and member of both the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland and the Institute of Directors. He has over 30 years’ experience in Higher Education financial management, and is a former Deputy Finance Director and Acting Director of Finance at the University of Edinburgh.
In his current role, David undertakes project work of various types on behalf of the Director of Corporate Services. One recent role was a six-month secondment to the Alan Turing Institute in London as interim Chief Operating Officer, charged with establishing the fledgling Institute’s support functions. He has also completed a review of the University’s portfolio of subsidiary companies and, at the time of writing, is taking forward implementation of the recommendations made.
David holds an MA (joint-Honours) degree in French and Italian from the University of Edinburgh, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Accounting from Heriot-Watt University.
Chris has over thirty years of Planning, Operations, and Risk Management experience drawn from military, government, corporate and private business perspectives. Before coming to The University of Edinburgh, he developed and implemented new government-wide Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) policy and practice for the Province of British Columbia, Canada, for the integration of risk management into business planning across diverse ministries and Crown corporations. Prior to this he served as an officer in the Canadian Forces.
In his current role, Chris is responsible for facilitating the implementation of the risk management framework and process across the University, assisting with the analysis of operational level risk and the roll-up of significant risks to the strategic level, and providing risk management advice and assistance to all organizations within the University.
Chris holds an MA in Leadership from Royal Roads University, a BA in Political Science from The University of Western Ontario, and a Certified Risk Manager designation from Simon Fraser University.
Nikola is a resilience practitioner with over 10 years’ experience in business continuity, emergency planning, risk management and audit. Prior to joining the University Nikola was a Senior Resilience Officer with the City of Edinburgh Council where she successfully managed and delivered all aspects of the Business Continuity Management (BCM) Lifecycle and led the Council to achieve corporate registration to ISO22301 (the International Standard for business continuity).
Nikola joined the University in September 2018 and is responsible for the University’s BCM including development and delivery of policy, strategies, plans, training and awareness, exercising and incident management.
Nikola completed a Postgraduate Masters in Civil Protection in 2011, holds the International Certificate in Risk Management, is a member of the Business Continuity Institute (MBCI) and is a qualified Lead Auditor for ISO22301.
Susan is responsible for overseeing and supervising the day-to-day building-related operations of Charles Stewart House including reception and support services staff, and providing administrative support to both the Vice-Principal of Business Development and Director of Corporate Services, along with the Director of Strategic Finance Change Management. Susan also supervises the Office Assistant who is taking part in the Modern Apprenticeship Programme.
Aga provides servitorial services exclusively to Charles Stewart House. Her main duties include mail and delivery services.
