Information about you: how we use it and with whom we share it.
Who we are
The Market Insight team within the Communications and Marketing department, University of Edinburgh.
Why we are collecting data
We conduct surveys to gain an insight into key areas of legitimate interest to the University. The purpose of the survey will be described in the email and/or introductory text you have received.
Data we collect and who has access
The survey data we collect will be completely anonymous at the reporting stage and your responses will not be attributed to you personally unless you give us permission otherwise.
The data we collect is only accessible to members of staff at the University of Edinburgh, specifically, the Market Insight team within the Communications and Marketing department.
However, the information you provide may be shared with the relevant team or teams within the University as outlined in the email and/or introductory text you have received. This information will be anonymised unless you have given your permission for it not to be.
Should it be applicable (e.g. for current students), your responses may be linked to the administrative information the University holds about you.
You have the right to access, rectify and restrict processing of any personal data you have provided and withdraw any consent you have given at any time. Contact details to facilitate this are at the end of this document.
How we collect your information
We use a third party - Survey Monkey to collect our survey data. Survey Monkey stores its data outside of the European Union. However, to facilitate compliance with European personal data export requirements, Survey Monkey is certified under the EU-US Privacy Shield Programme.
By completing the survey you consent to your personal data being transferred out of the EU and onto servers located in the United States. These servers are maintained by Survey Monkey’s U.S. parent company.
How we protect your data
All data that we collect is held securely on the University’s servers and treated as confidential.
We will hold the personal data you have provided for 12 months following the completion of the research project.
What if I have any concerns?
We aim to be transparent about the way we process your personal data but we understand that you may still have questions or concerns. If there is anything you are unclear about or would like to discuss then please contact:
