We know that ongoing professional development is an essential part of any progressive healthcare professional’s career, but it can be difficult to find the course that best suits your needs, schedule and budget.

Our Department offers a number of short, academic credit-bearing and non-academic credit-bearing courses to help you meet your professional development commitments.

We offer two types of short course:

  • Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
  • Postgraduate Professional Development (PPD)

Non-academic credit-bearing Academic credit-bearing and can be used as credit towards a Postgraduate Certificate, Postgraduate Diploma or Masters degree

You have access to a carefully curated, open access, reading list to support your learning You have full access to the University of Edinburgh library including physical and electronic resources

There are no minimum entry requirements; however, we suggest that applicants:

  • hold a higher education qualification, in a healthcare, veterinary or science related field, for example Diploma, BSc (Hons), BA (Hons) or BVM&S
  • be sufficiently fluent in English reading, listening and writing to actively engage with other learners
  • have clinical experience

Participants must fulfil University of Edinburgh postgraduate entrance requirements including:

  • English language requirements
  • Evidence of recent academic achievement

Participation requirements:

  • Active participation each week of the course
  • Contribution of at least one substantive online discussion post each week of the course, plus group participation if required
  • Completion of the personal reflective review

Participation requirements:

  • Active participation each week of the course
  • Active contribution to assessed online discussion and activities as required
  • Successful completion of summative assessed tasks which may include written assignments, case studies, literature reviews and/or group assignments

On successful completion of the course receive:

  • ‘Certificate of Participation’ which details the number of notional CPD hours

On successful completion of the course, including assessed assignments, receive:

  • ‘Certificate of Participation’ which details the number of notional CPD hours
  • Academic transcript from the University of Edinburgh
