Academic and Student support
While you're studying with us, specially trained staff, academics and fellow students work together to provide you with guidance and support when you need it.
Postgraduate taught students now have a dedicated Student Adviser, specially trained to support them during their studies.
What do we mean by student support?
At the University of Edinburgh, we provide support through joined-up teams of specialist staff who work alongside academics, University services and fellow students.
A key part of our model is the Student Adviser, a named individual who will be your first point of contact for any support, including:
- Your studies
- Your wellbeing
- Practical matters
Student Advisers: is your contact throughout your time at the University of Edinburgh. They provide guidance and support to you at key points in your study journey, or with changes to your personal circumstances.

Cohort Leads: Academic members of staff who support a group of students - or cohort - usually on the same degree programme, with their studies. They facilitate communications and group activities, such as academic drop-ins and celebrations of key events, creating an academic community within your cohort.

Student Wellbeing Advisers: Work alongside your Student Adviser to help in accessing a range of support for students who are experiencing issues impacting on their health, wellbeing, studies and personal lives.
