Abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA)
Abdominal aortic aneurysm is a serious condition whereby the aorta swells & can burst, without warning; it is the thirteenth commonest cause of death in the United Kingdom.
Overview
We have conducted two major studies (MA3RS & SoFia trials) in patients with swelling of the aorta (the main blood vessel that passes through the body).
We have shown that new imaging techniques using PET & MR scanning can predict how quickly these swellings grow & whether or not patients will suffer a major event. This has important potential implications for how these patients will be monitored & treated in the future.
