29 Jul 20. Dr Williams elevated to SCCT BoD

Congratulations to Dr Michelle Williams, Senior Clinical Research Fellow at the University of Edinburgh, on becoming a member of the SCCT Board of Directors.

Dr Williams has been a member of the Society of Cardiovascular Computed Tomography (SCCT) since 2011 & was previously a member of their FiRST (Fellows & Residents In Training) committee.

More recently she became a member of the SCCT Education Committee & lead for the SCCT International Education Task Force.

Dr Williams has spoken at multiple previous SCCT meetings & won the SCCT Siemens Outstanding Academic Research award in 2016 & was finalist for the SCCT Toshiba Young Investigator Award in 2014. 

Last year, Dr Williams was program chair for the SCCT Innovation meeting on "Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning in Cardiovascular CT". It was due to take place in New York, but sadly had to be virtual. Dr Williams is currently helping to prepare the program for next SCCT Innovation meeting on machine learning in 2021. 

She also helped with the SCCT guidelines on the use of cardiac computed tomography amidst the COVID-19 pandemic & has helped with a number of other guidelines which will be published later this year. 

At the SCCT 2020 virtual meeting Dr Williams chaired the session on Artificial Intelligence in Cardiac Imaging & taught on the "2020 Board Review & Update Course".

We caught up with Dr Williams to ask her how she felt on becoming a member of the SCCT Board of Directors.

"I am delighted to become a member of the SCCT Board of Directors.

It is a privilege to be part of an amazing group of leaders in cardiovascular imaging. Computed tomography has a central role in the diagnosis of coronary artery disease, & a wide variety of other cardiac conditions.

It is fantastic to be part of the group driving the future applications of this technology."
