08 Nov 20. World Radiography Day

World Radiography Day is celebrated at Edinburgh Imaging - our imaging facilities run well & efficiently because of our radiographers. We asked our radiographers what they enjoy most about their jobs & working at the Edinburgh Imaging Facilities.

Many radiographers work at our Edinburgh Imaging Facility RIE & Edinburgh Imaging Facility QMRI.

Our radiographers scan volunteers & patients who are apart of imaging research projects, as well as NHS patients.

Radiographers play a vital role in welcoming patients & study volunteers to our facilities & at putting them at ease so that scans can be carried out in an informed & relaxed manner.

Our radiographers are the cornerstones of our facilities.

For World Radiography Day, we asked our radiographers about favourite aspects of their jobs & why they enjoy working at Edinburgh Imaging Facilities. Here are some of their responses:

Edinburgh Imaging Facility QMRI, Positron Emission Tomography-Computed Tomography (PET-CT) scanner

  • "Working as part of a big multidisciplinary team"
  • "Adapting your skills for different patient groups to ensure every patient has an enjoyable experience"
  • "The inspiring team of people I work with"
  • "Feeling as if I am making a contribution to advancements in healthcare"
  • "The great researchers & teams we get to work with"
  • "Working with state of the art scanners & equipment"
  • "Learning about different pathologies & techniques in both research & clinical environments"

The Edinburgh Imaging Academy also offers online education for MR trained radiographers - the IOFB Review course. The IOFB Review course is designed to enable MR radiographers to establish a programme & protocols for radiographer review of orbital radiographs for metallic intra-orbital foreign bodies (IOFBs); also to develop competency in metallic IOFB identification on orbital radiographs.

The IOFB Review course is endorsed by the Irish Institute of Radiography & Radiation Therapy.
