Job Purpose

The successful candidate will be appointed as a Senior Clinical Lecturer in Radiology at consultant level, and have a strong interest in becoming a clinical academic radiologist to enhance and build capacity in radiological research in Edinburgh.

Expertise in diagnostic/cross-sectional is required.

Areas of strategic importance include multimodality cardiovascular imaging, molecular imaging, neurological and body MRI imaging. These areas are broadly supporting 4 imaging facilities, based within Edinburgh.

The post will be based in the Queen’s Medical Research Institute imaging facility, which is part of Edinburgh Imaging, providing superb imaging research facilities, co-located with world-class biomedical neuroscience research facilities, nested within the SINAPSE multicentre collaborative imaging research environment.

You will have a strong interest in clinical imaging research appropriate to your career stage. 

As part of the College of Medicine and Veterinary Medicine's clinical research closely collaborates with preclinical and veterinary clinical research, which also have excellent CT, MRI, micro PET-CT and ultrasound facilities available.

You will help to promote academic clinical imaging at all levels, including supporting and enhancing eLearning and on-line teaching initiatives such as the online Imaging MSc, help supervise PhD students who spend time in imaging research, and encourage Radiology and other clinical trainees to engage in research. There will be opportunities to contribute to the SE Scotland Radiology Training centre.

You will also have clinical skills which will be of value to the Directorate of Clinical Imaging. NHS Lothian will offer an Honorary Contract at Consultant level for 5 PAs under the appropriate agreed Terms and Conditions of Service. These clinical sessions will be expressed in the NHS Department of Radiology, based at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh and/or the Western General Hospital. You will participate pro rata in the relevant RIE/WGH on-call rota, which is effectively 1:27. Clinical sessions will be agreed depending on the experience and competencies of the individual, but will likely include ultrasound, plain film and cross sectional imaging. You will be encouraged to engage with remote reporting through the regional reporting service as time allows.
