Our Scientific Cores and Specialist Support Services have many years’ experience in supporting high quality, high impact research with a particular focus on experimental medicine.

Our Nursing and Clinical team provides a high quality clinical environment in which patients and healthy volunteers can safely participate in research.

Modern imaging techniques have revolutionized many aspects of medicine and clinical research by providing more accurate diagnosis, guidance of surgical procedures and greater understanding of disease processes.

The Genetics Core is staffed and equipped to provide secure receipt, processing, archiving and analysis of biological samples. Our team can provide support for your clinical research from sample collection to genetic analysis, working to the principles of Good Clinical Practice for Laboratories. We aim to be a centre of excellence for quality assured genomic research.

Our team provides a service for targeted small molecule analysis. We use separation by chromatography and mass spectrometry analysis. We offer a number of validated quantitative assays and also develop novel analytical methods tailored to researcher-specific questions and needs.

The Education Core provides education and training for the clinical research community through the delivery of courses, events, webinars and Open Educational Resources (OERs).

The Epidemiology and Statistics Core aims to improve the methodological quality of research projects through the provision of expert statistical input.

The IT Core develops and maintains web services and applications to support the needs of clinical research. Our software is used in many Clinical Research sites in the UK and Europe.

We provide administrative support for all Edinburgh CRF Cores, assisting them in providing a high quality and responsive service to the clinical research community.
