Based within the Edinburgh UK Dementia Research Institute (DRI) in the Centre for Discovery Brain Sciences at The University of Edinburgh, the role entails analysis of human tissue and experimental models by immunofluorescence, electron microscopy, and digital spatial profiling. This will be paired with in vivo modelling, transgenic manipulation of cells, and cognitive testing. The applicant will work closely with Dr. Veronique Miron (Principal Investigator) and all members of the lab, as well as other researchers with a focus on neuroimmunology and neuroscience within the centre, the Chancellor’s Building institute and neighbouring institutes on campus. The fellow will build collaborative networks with local cognitive scientists, neuropathologists, and bioinformaticians. The fellow will also be able to expand their network by participating in the UK DRI Neuroinflammation Hub which brings together neuroimmunologists from across the UK working on cognition, dementia, and neurodegenerative disease.

Your skills and attributes for success:

  • Ability to lead and deliver on a project, eg indicated by first author publications
  • Excellent communication skills, eg presentations at scientific conferences, writing articles
  • Experience in analysis of CNS tissue, eg by immunofluorescence, confocal microscopy, and electron microscopy
  • Experience with in vivo modelling, eg. handling, perfusion, transgenics, CNS dissection
  • Experience with gene or protein analysis, eg. RNAseq, bioinformatics
