Siddharthan Chandran joins Dementias Platform UK Exec

Aug 2016: Professor Siddharthan Chandran has been appointed to the Executive Team of Dementias Platform UK

Congratulations to Professor Siddharthan Chandran, Director of CCBS, who has been appointed to the Executive Team of Dementias Platform UK (DPUK). Prof Chandran will represent the University of Edinburgh and provide a Scottish perspective to the development of UK Programmes.

DPUK Director John Gallacher said “Professor Chandran brings many skills to the Exec, but most of all he brings a fresh and fertile mind to the Platform ’s leadership. I look forward very much to his contribution at all levels of platform activity as we continue to develop an integrated and coordinated dementia research environment within the UK.”

Prof Chandran has had recent success receiving an MRC grant  for a Partnership that utilises the DPUK Stem Cell Infrastructure.  The award will provide 4 years of funding to establish UK-wide stem cell technical expertise to support and enable the wider research community to biologically study reprogrammed stem cells derived from the DPUK cohorts and will bring together the six members from Cambridge, Cardiff, Edinburgh, Manchester, Oxford and University College London.  The partnership will be appointing four scientists to work across the Laboratories involved in the Network, creating opportunities for researchers interested in dementias.

“I am delighted to join the team. Now is an exciting time for Dementia research in the UK and full of possibilities. I am particularly keen to promote how the health data science environment of Scotland with its unique e-record system and Scottish MRC Farr hub might accelerate progress in harnessing high value population and disease cohorts for clinical research and trials”.
