Sue Fletcher-Watson appointed co-Director of Research Ethics

Jun 2021: Many congratulations to Professor Sue Fletcher-Watson, who has been appointed co-Director of Research Ethics for the University's College of Medicine and Veterinary Medicine.

Prof Sue Fletcher-Watson

Sue's co-Director is Dr Christine Campbell, Reader in the Usher Institute.

The co-Directors will chair the newly established Edinburgh Medical School Research Ethics Committee (EMREC) and, importantly, will also be responsible for developing and implementing a plan of embedding a positive culture of research ethics into the College.

EMREC has been recently established to review the ethics of proposals for health research involving people, their tissues or data and undertaken by staff and postgraduate students in the College.  As well as UK-based health research, the committee's remit extends to proposals where ethical review also takes place outwith the UK.  The committee will deal with projects that do not require approval through either the R(D) SVS Human Ethical Review Committee, NHS REC, or other external processes.
