Rev. Laurene M. Lafontaine is a spiritual leader, educator, and social activist. Since 1987 when she graduated from Princeton Theological Seminary and was ordained as a Presbyterian Church USA minister, her faith journey led her to

transferred into the Church of Scotland in 2018. Her ministry and work as an out lesbian clergy person reflects her commitment to peace and justice in the church, interfaith communities and the society at large.

 

She is the minister at Broughton St. Mary’s Parish Church in Edinburgh since December 2021. She was minister at Kingswell Parish Church 2019-2021. Prior to moving to Scotland, she served churches in Rochester, MN and Denver, Colorado.

 

Laurene taught courses in Advanced Placement European History, Twentieth-Century World History, Great Ideas in Religion, Speech and coordinated the Community Service Program at St. Mary's Academy High School in Englewood, Colorado.

 

She served as the National Co-Moderator for Presbyterians for Lesbian/Gay Concerns working for the full inclusion of LGBT people within the denomination and directed the Voices of Faith program for LGBT civil rights with Equality Colorado during the turbulent 1990’s.

 

In 1989, she founded and directed the AIDS/HIV Interfaith Network after completing a 2 year post-graduate internship and residency hospital chaplaincy program at Presbyterian/St. Luke’s Hospital and the University of Colorado Health Science Center,
