Centre for Reproductive Health

Obituary: Dr Rodrigo Rodrigues

Dr Rodrigo Rodrigues, a member of Professor Jeffrey Pollard’s group at the Medical Research Council Centre for Reproductive Health (MRC-CRH) at the University of Edinburgh, tragically passed away from natural causes over the New Year.

Rodrigo was born in Brazil and completed his B.Sc. at the Federal University of Golias. This was followed by a Master’s degree at The University of San Paolo with an exchange year at Yale in Professor Richard Flavell’s lab funded by the Lehmann Foundation. He went on to complete his PhD in Cambridge, UK under the direction of Professor Arthur Kaser in 2020. Here he published outstanding research in the best journals on metabolic control of immune cells. In October 2021 after some delays in getting a visa, he came to MRC-CRH in Edinburgh full of enthusiasm to study a type of immune cells known as macrophages in cancer with a view of improving therapy.

He was a brilliant scientist with a great future. He was fun to be with, had a great personality and always ready with an insightful question or comment. He was our dear friend and colleague, and he will be sorely missed. All of us in the MRC-CRH send our most sincere condolences to his family during this very sad time.
