Keynote Speaker at European Working Group

July 2016: CGEM Rheumatology and Bone Disease scientist joined international experts as a Keynote speaker to share advances in management and treatment of Gaucher Disease.

Dr Nerea Alonso, from the Rheumatology and Bone Disease Unit, CGEM, was an invited keynote speaker at the 12th European Working Group on Gaucher Disease, at Zaragoza, Spain. This biannual event brings together Gaucher disease experts from all over the world to share the latest advances in management and treatment of the disease. The event also focuses on conditions secondary to the disease, namely Parkinson’s disease and bone involvement.

Dr Alonso’s talk summarised the findings to date on genetics of osteoporosis, from the early studies using linkage approaches to the results by state-of-art next generation sequencing techniques. In addition, she underlined the importance of using personalised medicine for the management of the osteoporosis, supported by some of her unpublished data on pharmacogenomics for osteoporosis.
