Create your own opportunity

Can’t find what you are looking for and need to get some experience on your CV? Be resourceful and seek out employers who could offer you an opportunity.

They may not have a formal work experience programme but you might be able to secure some work shadowing – or possibly more.

Preparation is key. Research the organisation, demonstrate your motivation, be adaptable and grasp any and every opportunity to help you develop. They may not be able to offer you exactly what you want so be flexible. Remember: any experience is valuable and demonstrating initiative is just what  employers are looking for.

Where can you start?

  • Meet employers at on campus events – advertised on MyCareerHub
