Careers Service

What can I do on-campus?

From our new Careers & Coffee service to updated advice on using Brand Ambassadors, find out what your options are to have an on-campus presence.

For the academic year 2021/22 we will mostly be offering you online opportunities to connect with our students and graduates, but there are still some options for having an on-campus presence.

Whilst we hope that most of our students will be joining us in-person in Edinburgh this year, we expect restrictions on physical distancing to continue so we advise employers to put most effort into connecting with students and graduates virtually and we have a range of online services to support you with this.

However, we know that many of you are looking for ways to have an on-campus presence. Our services and advice relating to on-campus activity are below.

We always recommend making sure your organisation and any vacancies and events you want students to know about are listed on MyCareerHub as a first step.

Careers & coffee

We have developed this new service to support organisations with attraction and building brand awareness.  It is an excellent opportunity for individual employers to talk to students informally about your organisation and any opportunities you have available.

A typically high-footfall space in the foyer of the Main Library* on central campus** will be made available to you. From this position you can attract the attention of students entering and exiting the library and offer those that you speak with a token for a free drink. The space includes one small poseur table and there is space to bring your own small pull up banner (no more than 1 meter wide). We allow no more than 2 representatives from one organisation on the stand so that we can maintain safe social distancing.

This service can be booked on Wednesday lunchtimes from 12-2pm.

Charge - £150 + VAT including 20 drinks tokens for the Library Cafe

If you are an SME and you would like to know more about our discounted prices please get in touch with employers@ed.ac.uk

Please email the employer team to enquire about this service and to find out date availability employers@ed.ac.uk

*the exact location may change depending on social distancing guidelines in place at the time of your booking.

** a variation on this service may also be available at our Kings Buildings campus - please contact us to discuss

Booking other space on-campus

In most cases we would recommend that you consider holding an online event and promoting this to our students rather than coming onto campus to hold a presentation, skills session or other group event in-person. Space on campus will still be restricted, and various factors may influence the success of an in-person event.

However, we realise that some of you may still wish to pursue these options. Whilst we cannot facilitate this for you, our on-campus partners below would be happy to try and assist. You are welcome to explore options with them directly but before confirming a booking we advise you to run your plans past us so that we can advise on timings and likelihood of your event attracting the students you are targeting.

· To enquire about space inside or outside a Students’ Association venue please email, advertising@eusa.ed.ac.uk. You can browse the spaces available to you through the Students Association on their website - https://www.eusa.ed.ac.uk/commercialpartnerships/advertisetostudents

· To enquire about larger spaces around campus please email our Edinburgh First contact Claire Pryde, events@ed.ac.uk

If you plan to hold an in-person event for our students in an off-campus venue (eg local hotel) we also recommend you run you plans past us.

Recruit Brand Ambassadors

Many employers recruit current students to help spread the word about them amongst their peers. In academic year 2021/22 we anticipate more organisations will consider using brand ambassadors as it offers an effective way to have an on-campus presence when other options are still limited due to guidance around Covid-19. We can advertise these roles for you, and we offer advice on how to get the most out of your brand ambassadors. Please see our detailed Guidance below.

What about Careers Fairs?

Careers fairs continue to be one of the most popular ways for students to connect with potential employers and we can now offer virtual alternatives to help you connect with students.
