Creative & Cultural Careers (March 2024)

We run a campaign of events each year to help raise awareness of careers paths in the creative & cultural industries. This is usually a series of events and resources which shine a spotlight on creative and cultural careers. We know that career paths in these industries can be trickier to navigate but we remain committed to supporting students interested in this sector.

The aim is to provide insight and inspiration and facilitate direct engagement between students and industry representatives who can provide information and advice on careers in their sector.

Why should I get involved?

Because you care about attracting new and diverse talent into the Creative Industries and want to help students explore their options.

You might want to get involved because you are keen to share your personal advice and experience or because your organisation is keen to attract students.  The campaign isn’t designed to be about direct recruitment but of course we welcome participation from organisations who are actively recruiting.

How do I get involved?

There are 4 main ways for you to get involved - be part of one of our events, pop up on campus on a Careers & Coffee stand, advertise your upcoming events and opportunities with #EdCreativeCareers, or write a guest piece for our Inform.ed blog. If you are interested in any of the options below, or would like to help us raise awareness of creative & cultural careers in a different way please email us on employers@ed.ac.uk

Which students will engage?

  • Students from any subject background and at any stage in their course will be encouraged to engage.  Typically, the majority come from our College of Arts, Humanities and Social Science, in particular from Edinburgh College of Art and the School of Languages, Literatures and Cultures.

  • We encourage students to use this as a chance to be curious and discover what’s out there – that means some students may be at earlier stages of exploring career options and others may have clearer plans.

  • We are proud to have a very diverse student population – our international students make up around 49% of our student population and come from over 160 countries – naturally they are keen to hear from the industry about their chances of working in the UK and have questions about visas.

  • We have guidance on recruiting international students here.
