Insights Programme
The Insights Programme offers students the chance to benefit from alumni sharing their knowledge and experience of job sectors and workplaces.
About the programme
The aim of the Programme is to inspire students, enhance their employability, increase their confidence and widen their networks through alumni hosting them for short periods of supported career and workplace exploration. The programme is targeted at students from a widening participation background. In order to remove any barriers to participation, the students receive full funding.
Students are placed into small groups and given the opportunity to connect online and in person with Edinburgh alumni. From early career graduates to those in senior roles, alumni share their career stories, advice, and insights about what it is like to work in their sector.
Students take part in a series of events and activities involving alumni working in a cross-section of sectors, who are either based in Scotland or in one of our host cities around the world.

Who can take part
The Insights Programme consists of two strands; online and in person experiences. We’re looking for a wide range of hosts, to showcase the diversity of career opportunities available. Whether you are a self-employed freelancer or working at a global corporation, you can get involved if you are a former University of Edinburgh student or representing an organisation which employs Edinburgh alumni who are interested in connecting with students.

Widening Participation
The University is engaged with prospective students, their families and advisers in a wide range of Widening Participation awareness and aspiration-raising projects and activities aimed at students who are:
- attending schools where relatively few students go on to higher education
- living in low participation neighbourhoods, eg the lowest quintile in the Scottish Index of Multiple Deprivation (SIMD20)
- mature students from the above groups
- young people with care experience
- from low socio economic groups
