Current legislation in place to prevent gender discrimination includes the Equal Pay Act of 1970 and the Sex Discrimination Act (SDA) of 1975. The Equality Bill passed by parliament in 2006 and the subsequent Gender Equality Duty (GED), which came into force in April 2007, places legal responsibility on public authorities to demonstrate that they treat men and women fairly. These acts are included within the Equality Act 2010.
