All you need to know about our appointments service

How do I book an appointment with a Careers Consultant?

All our appointments are being held online via Microsoft Teams (you will be sent a link) or Skype.  Book an appointment via MyCareerHub and choose one at a time that suits you. Please provide your Skype account name when you make your booking.

There are no appointments left, how can I get help?

Don’t worry, there are lots of ways we can help you. 

If you just want a quick info or advice chat, or to find out more about how we can support you and what you can be doing, email us at careers@ed.ac.uk with your student number and we'll get back to you. 

Who can have an appointment?

All current University of Edinburgh students and graduates up to 2 years after graduation

What can I talk about?

Anything to do with careers – it’s your time! We can give feedback on job applications and talk to you about your career plans and ideas. We also offer practice interviews.

Do I need to know what I want to do?

No!  It’s OK if you don’t know what you want to do – we’re here to help

When can I have an appointment?

We offer appointments Monday-Friday at a range of times. Check for details in MyCareerHub

How far in advance do I need to book?

Most of our appointments can be booked up to 7 days’ in advance. For practice interviews you need to book at least 2 days' in advance.

How long will my appointment be?

Most of our appointments are 20 minutes. Practice interviews are 45 minutes.

How many appointments can I have?

You can have up to 2 appointments in a 2 week period and up to 2 practice interviews a year

What if I’m late for my appointment?

If you’re more than 5 minutes late for your appointment then we won’t be able to see you

I need to cancel my appointment, what should I do?

You can cancel your appointment in MyCareerHub up to 2 hours before the start time.  After this you can’t cancel but please email careers@ed.ac.uk to let us know you can’t attend.

Who should I see?

You can see any consultant or you can choose to see the careers consultant for your School – it’s your choice.  Find out who your School careers consultant is here:
