Dr Adriana Tavares delivered a public talk on how PET scanning of the brain as part of the Research Insights series on the 2nd March 2022. Dr Adriana Tavares is an imaging scientist who leads a research team at the Centre for Cardiovascular Science. In her talk Dr Tavares explains how an imaging technique called PET has improved over years which allows researchers to learn more about how healthy brains work and what goes wrong when a person has a neurological condition. She develops radioactive molecules that allow her to trace which parts of the brain are most active and when. Research has shown that our brains change throughout our lives. What Adriana is learning has the potential to influence how brain conditions are treated and understood in the future depending on what PET images show. The talk is followed by a lively Q&A session with questions ranging from 'what does a career as an imaging scientist look like' to 'will future brain scans let us see people's memories'.
