Edinburgh Cancer Research

Independently funded students

Beyond our CRUK studentship and fellowship programmes.

CRUK students

Outside our main CRUK funded studentship programmes we do not have any other funding sources available for potential clinical and non-clinical PhD students.

However, we welcome applications from graduates who have won competitive fellowships (stipend, tuition and bench fees) for the duration of the study. If you are a clinician or an allied health professional looking to start a career in cancer research, CRUK offers Research Bursaries.

Here are some points to consider:

  • Applicants from EU and overseas (non-EU) must hold a first or upper second class honours degree or its international equivalent from a recognised University.
  • Before making an application you must first make direct contact with a host laboratory in order to identify a Principal Investigator to discuss your application.
  • Selection will depend on space available within the Edinburgh Cancer Research and the student's academic record.
  • Non-UK candidates whose first language is not English must provide a certificate of proficiency in the English language.
