Data Driven Innovation Hubs

Back to Main Page

Through our £660 million Data-Driven Innovation Programme, an unparalleled investment programme to drive economic development in the region through the use of data and AI, we are now establishing five major innovation hubs, each focusing on different sectors: These underpin the University’s commitment to grow its research capability in data and AI across the entire institution and to enable all disciplines and sectors to benefit from emerging technologies.

Together with a novel data and compute capability provided by the Edinburgh International Data Facility that builds on a history of leading the development of the UK’s supercomputing and data facilities through EPCC for over 25 years, these cross-disciplinary, outward-facing initiatives benefit from a unique capability to use large-scale real-world datasets and the most advanced AI hardware. These capabilities have unlocked major opportunities to work with partners outside the University on large-scale research and innovation programmes, such as:

which develop pathways to translate AI advances to societal benefit, with a focus on responsible innovation, trusted data research, ethics and sustainability. Industry collaboration and entrepreneurship play a key role in the University’s AI approach.
