Since January 2022, the Khyentse Foundation generously offered us a new grant to pursue our outreach work in schools. Along with the tools and resources for teachers, more information can be found on the School Teaching page

 

Future Events

 

Storytelling workshops - 20th and 21st May 2022 - Edinburgh (in person) 

We will hold two storytelling workshops in person for scholars and teachers on the 20th and 21st of May, followed by performances from storytellers at the end of the afternoon. You can find below the details of the separate events. All sessions are free, but registration is needed as there are a limited number of places for each workshop and performance.   • Friday 20th May 10 am-3.30 pm: storytelling workshop for scholars with storytelling trainer Steve Killick

Location: Project Room 1.06, 50 George Square, Edinburgh. This includes lunch, teas and coffees.  

Learn some Buddhist tales, acquire storytelling skills that will help you in your teaching and public speaking, and have a good time in the process at this small interactive workshop with professional storyteller Steve Killick. This workshop is for academic staff and postgraduate students. Attendees are encouraged to register for the performance as well. 

  • Storytelling performance “A Journey Through Buddhist Stories” with Steve Killick (4-5 pm)

Location: Project Room 1.06, 50 George Square, Edinburgh.  

At this event, you will hear a range of stories from Buddhist traditions, introduced and contextualised by scholars from the Edinburgh Buddhist Studies research network 

 

  • Saturday 21st May 2022, 10 am-3.30 pm: storytelling workshop for school teachers with storytellers Sita Brand and Steve Killick 

Location: Project Room 1.06, 50 George Square, Edinburgh. This includes lunch, teas and coffees. We have some bursaries available to cover travel costs.  

In this small interactive session, two professional storytellers will help you learn to use storytelling skills in your classes. The workshop is focused on Buddhist tales that address key themes and curricular areas, and academics from the EBS network will be on hand to help with questions of context. Learn some new stories and some new skills and take them back into the classroom with you. Attendees are encouraged to register for the performance as well. 

  • Storytelling performance: “The Perfect Moment” with storyteller Sita Brand (4-5 pm)

Location: Project Room 1.06, 50 George Square, Edinburgh.  

In the performance, The Perfect Moment, journey from the temples of Thailand across Asia and Europe with storyteller Sita Brand. Sita spent her 30s in search of wisdom through Buddhism. This is her story: a cacophony of true stories and traditional folktales. She was born and raised in Bombay. She founded the Yorkshire-based company Settle Stories in 2010, which continues to thrive.  More information about her work on her website
