Dr Debbie Shaw awarded Senior Fellowship of the HEA

We are delighted to announce that Dr Debbie Shaw has been awarded Senior Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (HEA).

According to the HEA, the Senior Fellow of the HEA is a recognition of a “proven, sustained track record in Higher Education teaching and management”. The HEA is globally recognised for inspiring excellent teaching as an essential driver of student success.

The judging panel thought that Debbie provided a rich and deeply reflective account of her teaching approach and were particularly drawn to her emphasis on “identity and belonging”, and the explicit (and evidenced) link with student retention and completion.

The panel also thought that Debbie's observation that students were often not able to perceive for themselves the skills that they already possessed was an important insight.

Debbie's award of Senior Fellow of the HEA is testament to the innovative and dedicated work she has developed over the last few years in BMTO and, in particular, for driving forward the student support structures that have also gained internal and external recognition by the academic community.
