Professor Mayank Dutia retires

Professor Mayank Dutia has retired from his role as Director of Postgraduate Teaching at the Deanery of Biomedical Sciences after almost 40 years working for the University of Edinburgh.

Professor Mayank Dutia's achievements at the University of Edinburgh were noted by the Dean of Biomedical Sciences, Professor Mike Shipston:

Mayank has been with the University for almost 40 years during which time he has consistently innovated and inspired students and staff in teaching and research. He was one of the first to introduce computational models into Physiology teaching in Edinburgh and more recently has developed a number of web-based educational and administrative tools. He played a leading role in establishing MOOCs in Edinburgh and established the highly successful ‘Our Changing World’ public lecture series. For the last 7 years he has supported and developed our portfolio of Postgraduate programmes as Director of Postgraduate Teaching in Biomedical Sciences. His research has provided fundamental new insights into the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying the recovery of balance function after damage to the inner ear. Mayank has been an exceptionally collegiate and supportive member of Biomedical Sciences and the wider University, including through his promotion of Equality & Diversity.
