Dr Jane Haley awarded MBE

Congratulations to Dr Jane Haley (Edinburgh Neuroscience) who has been awarded a Member of the Order of the British Empire in the Queen's Birthday Honours List in recognition for Services to Science Engagement and Education.

Edinburgh Neuroscience was founded in 2006 and Jane has been the Scientific Coordinator since its beginning. During this time she has worked with researchers across the university to help create a neuroscience research  environment that is both collaborative and exciting.

This has included the instigation of a public engagement programme with public lectures, getBRAINY workshops for schools, science festivals and theatre and art co-productions. Since 2007 this programme has directly reached over 18,000 pupils and public as well as delivering drop-in activities to almost 40,000 people at science festivals.

I am both thrilled and honoured at this unexpected recognition for ’Services to Science Engagement and Education'. Edinburgh Neuroscience’s success over the past 13 years has not been down to the work of one individual but to the enthusiasm and support of all members of our rich and diverse neuroscience community. It is delight working with everyone!
