Saskia undertook her medical training at the University of Edinburgh graduating in 2017 where she also intercalated in Reproductive Biology BSc (Hons) in 2015. Completing her Foundation training in the South East of Scotland deanery, Saskia particularly enjoyed her General Surgical posts in both adult and paediatric surgery.
This year, 2019, Saskia has begun working towards the Edinburgh Surgical Sciences Qualification and will be working alongside a research team in a cohort study of acute pancreatitis. Saskia looks forward to fulfilling the role of Anatomy Research Fellow at the University of Edinburgh and ultimately pursuing a career in Surgery.
Teaching overview
Undergradute Teaching
Saskia held several undergraduate teaching roles during her time at university, notably, serving as Teaching Officer and Vice President of the Edinburgh University Trauma and Orthopaedic Society. Saskia was also the Clinical Associate for Edinburgh University Obstetrics and Gynaecology Society.
Postgraduate Teaching
During her years as a Foundation doctor, Saskia provided regular teaching to Edinburgh University medical undergraduates and has been awarded Surgical Teacher of the Month from the University/Department of General Surgery (RIE) 3 times. She then went on to develop a teaching programme for the junior doctors rotating through their General Surgical post at RIE and looks forward to continuing and developing this programme in the next coming year. Saskia is currently working towards her level 2 in the Clinical Educator Programme.
